COASTAL PROCESSES AND EROSION RESPONSE SEMINAR
You are invited to attend a 3-day seminar focusing on coastal processes and erosion response. The sessions will be held from Tuesday, October 6th - Thursday, October 8th, 2009 at the University of Alaska - Anchorage.
The coastal processes and erosion response seminar will be led by Dr. Orson Smith, P.E. a professor of civil engineering at the University of Alaska Anchorage. The workshop on the needs of coastal managers for coastal ocean observing information to address issues such as flooding, inundation, sea level changes, erosion and storm surge, will be led by the Alaska Ocean Observing System (AOOS).
These sessions are sponsored by the Department of Natural Resources - Alaska Coastal Management Program (ACMP), the Coastal Impact Assistance Program (CIAP), the Alaska Ocean Observing System (AOOS) and the Coastal States Organization (CSO).
Dr. Orson Smith, PE, a professor of civil engineering from the University of Alaska Anchorage will lead the Coastal Processes Seminar in response to requests from coastal managers for information on coastal science and coastal engineering. This session will run from 8:30am on Tuesday, October 6th to noon on Wednesday, October 7th. A field trip to Pt. Woronzof (near the Anchorage Airport) will complete these seminars. The field trip will provide an opportunity to observe first hand coastal processes in action on Alaska’s coast and is scheduled from
1p.m.- 4p.m. on Thursday, October 8th.
Immediately following the Coastal Processes Seminar will be a workshop to identify the specific data needs of coastal managers addressing coastal processes that could be provided by the Alaska Ocean Observing System (AOOS). This workshop will be held from 1pm on Wednesday, October 7th to noon on Thursday, October 8th. For a detailed agenda, click Seminar Final Agenda.
